Billed as a photographic journey through the sights and wonders of China, a new photo exhibit opening August 29 at HACC's gallery in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center, promises to capture the essence of another culture through the eye of the camera.

Faces of China: A Photographic Journey begins Monday and continues through September 20 at the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Anyone interested in a special showing may make arrangements by calling 717-944-1526.

The exhibit features the work of Shawn and Dave Warnick. The couple gathered the photos while on HACC's recent Summer Study Tour of China. Shawn, a HACC graphic design graduate, is enrolled at Millersville University. Her photography has won awards and has been published in Photographer's Forum magazine. Dave is an avid photographer and member of the Harrisburg Camera Club.

The Warnicks say they gained a deeper understanding of a different aesthetic in art while on the tour. Led by Xiaoqing Zhu, associate professor of humanities, the tour provided invaluable insight through lectures and comments pertaining to the motivating forces behind the architecture and art they experienced.

"China presents many faces today, from ancient mysteries to the struggle of joining the modern world," said Dave Warnick. "Through our photo exhibit we provide a first hand look at these splendors of Chinese culture, history and the arts."

The Gallery will host a closing reception on September 20 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The public is invited.
