Learning to move well is an important aspect of actor training. While not all actors are dancers, all actors should have sufficient movement training. Students will be introduced to the world of Hip-Hop, Jazz and Modern Movement as they learn how to beat count with isolation movement. By the end of the week, these techniques will be used to create three choreographed pieces from each of the three styles. Prior dance experience NOT necessary.

This course provides the knowledge and hands-on practice to build and manage Web sites. After learning Dreamweaver basics, students will learn to add content to a Web site; link to documents, files, and name anchors; add graphics and modify image properties. This course will help you use tables, templates, libraries, and forms; create frames; use Cascading Style Sheets; create button rollovers; and test and maintain your site.

Use Flash to enhance functionality using Action Script and interactive buttons; create compact movies using Load Movie and shared libraries; work with various video components and Bandwidth Profiler; and consider factors and techniques for publishing.

Design and Build a Period Costume or Set Model

In four days, students will design and construct either a set model to scale or a period costume. All supplies are included in the cost of the camp. The camp includes a short "snack mini-break." Students must choose one of the following:

Set Model: You will step into the role of set designer to build a three dimensional model to ½ inch scale. In doing so, you will base your design on a play and learn how designers make decisions and create a production concept, which is communicated in their scale model-the model is yours to keep!

Period Costume: on the first day of class, you will choose a costume from several different periods in history. You will then design the costume, select fabric from our enormous supply, and construct the costume using theatrical costume techniques. During construction, you will be using our professional costume facilities and tools. The costume is yours to keep!

Architecture Summer Camp

Activities include: visit to Falling Water and Kentuck Knob in western Pennsylvania, visit to an architectural office, lectures on great buildings of the world, computer applications in architecture, educational requirements to become an architect, career options in architecture, work with design problems. The camp is limited to 20 students. A nonrefundable $25 deposit must be paid by April 29, with full payment due by May 27.

Improvisation through TheatreSports

Theatresports is improvised theatre entertainment/games played as a sport. The audience gives players suggestions for performing improvised scenes, which are then awarded "points" by a "judge." Theatresports requires players to improvise and solve acting problems with greater clarity, wit, and skill. Participants will learn to think quickly on their feet and take greater risks with better overall communication.

Bunraku, Shadow, and Other World Styles of Puppetry for You

Students in this hands-on class will explore Asian, African, and European styles of puppetry which go beyond the usual finger and hand styles commonly introduced in our schools. Each day, students will focus upon a different country and construct a puppet out of found materials to take home. Characterization and voice manipulation will be explored, which is highly useful for those students interested in acting. Tuition includes cost of materials, which are provided.

Specialty Camps: Dance/Movement, Makeup, Design, Stage Combat

Students may choose from one of the following areas:

A. Dance/movement: Loosen up and let yourself go as you explore a variety of dance styles. Each day you will focus upon a different style as you rehearse a choreographed scene from five separate musicals!

B. Makeup: Transform yourself into a new creation each day as you learn various techniques of makeup application for characters, including creatures, animals, and special effects.

C. Design: Ever wonder how and why sets, costumes, props, and lighting are created for a theatrical production? This is your chance to become a designer and learn how professionals create the visual aspects seen by the audience.

D. Stage Combat: This is your opportunity to learn how professionals make it look "real" as you are guided through combat moves in a safe environment. Your training will culminate in carefully choreographed scenes performed for other students and faculty from our camps! (ages 13-18 ONLY)

Photography Camp: Digital Photography and Photo Shop

This course includes a discussion of the features found on digital cameras and tips on how to take great pictures. Also, learn basic editing techniques using computer software in order to turn simple snapshots into cherished keepsakes. Participants also learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop and the fundamental skills for developing graphics for print and/or the Web. Course exercises explore original image development and photo manipulation techniques. Some subjects covered include image editing, photo correction, problem-solving strategies, special effects graphics, and web animation. Students are encouraged to bring their own digital camera and accessories to class.
