Susan Moore is known for her long-time interest in painting the figure. Usually large-scale, Moore's paintings typically focus on portions of the body such as tightly cropped backs, torsos, or faces. Although she paints specific people, her work tends to reveal little about their personality allowing the viewer to inject their own interpretation. Moore's paintings are highly textural and layered with color to create a poetic balance between realism and abstraction.
Ms. Moore received her MFA from the University of California at Davis. She has received grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. She shows with the Locks Gallery in Philadelphia and is in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery and the Philadelphia Museum.
