Working from home can be a pleasant and profitable option for many entrepreneurs. However, without the knowledge of things like local regulations, business financing and planning, the experience could be a disaster in the making.

HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, will offer Home-Based Business in November to help would-be entrepreneurs turn their hobby into a business. Instructors will also offer inexpensive ideas for getting a product sold.

"One of the things that many people don't realize is that they have to operate a home-based business as if it were a business that exists outside of their home," explained Jim Imler, HACC's resident entrepreneur. "They have to keep records, track all of their expenses, conform to local zoning ordinances, and much more. Depending on the type of business, this can vary across the board."

Led by the college's division of Workforce and Economic Development, the one-session course will be offered in three locations during the month. On Tuesday, November 14, HACC will offer the course at the Lebanon Campus, 735 Cumberland Street in Lebanon, from 6 to 8 p.m. In New Bloomfield, the workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Old Jail Building, first floor conference room, 18 W. McClure Street, New Bloomfield. Harrisburg will host the third offering at Three Penn Center (349 Wiconisco Street in Harrisburg) on Thursday, November 16 from 6 to 8 p.m.

For more information on the workshop or to register for any one of these sessions, call HACC's Entrepreneurial Institute at 717-221-1311.
