More than 240 graduates participated in HACC's winter commencement, held Monday evening in the Cooper Student Center on the Harrisburg Campus.

Photo 1: Representative Ronald I. Buxton, a 1971 HACC graduate, was the commencement speaker at the ceremony in Cooper Student Center on the Harrisburg Campus, One HACC Drive.

Earlier this year Buxton was a recipient of the Circle of Distinction award from the HACC Alumni Association in recognition of his contributions to HACC and the community.

Buxton, a Democrat, represents the 103rd District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. His district includes Harrisburg, the boroughs of Steelton and Highspire and parts of Swatara Township.

He spoke to the newest group of HACC graduates, the majority of whom find employment in their field of study within six months or may already have a job. Approximately 85 percent of HACC graduates continue to reside within a 20-mile radius of the HACC campus they attended.

Photo 2: Kim Bradford of McSherrystown, was selected to speak on behalf of the graduating class. She attended HACC's Gettysburg Campus and received an associate degree in psychology. Bradford will transfer to Shippensburg University, studying for her bachelor's and master's degrees and plans to finish her doctorate at Johns Hopkins University.

The winter graduates "join more than 35,000 distinguished alumni of HACC - graduates who continue to bring honor to the college as they make significant contributions to our communities," said President Edna V. Baehre, Ph.D., who conferred the degrees, certificates and diplomas.
