Oct. 22, 2008

Harrisburg, PA – HACC TheatreWorks brings to life the chillingly dark comedy, “A Skull in Connemara,” by contemporary playwright Martin McDonagh. The Irish tale with humor and horror will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7 and 8, in the Studio Theatre of the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.

HACC Theatre Professor Marnie Brennan directs “A Skull in Connemara,” telling a spooky tale of the gravedigger Mick who has been hired each year by the local church to recycle the occupants of the small cemetery to make room for new arrivals.  Secrets that may or may not be hidden in old graves make “A Skull in Connemara” a fascinating mix of mystery, mayhem and humor.
This year promises to be problematic however, as he is assigned to dig up the bones of his late beloved wife, who died under increasingly suspicious circumstances. Hairpin plot twists make this uproariously funny and deliciously disturbing.
“A Skull in Connemara” cast includes the gravedigger Mick Dowd, played by Sean McCormack; teenage hooligan Mairtin, played by Bill McCarthy; Constable Tom, played by Ben Koontz; and Mary Johnny, played by HACC Theatre Professor Brenda Eppley.
“A Skull in Connemara” features an abstract set designed by Dave Olmsted, HACC theatre scenic designer/production manager, complemented by lighting designed by Lori Friedlander, HACC theatre technical director, and costumes designed by HACC theatre instructor, Paul Foltz.
