The public is invited to join in on event, which will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at the campus, 1641 Old Philadelphia Pike. The event is co-sponsored by the Center for Innovative Teaching Excellence, the Student Government Association and the faculty, staff and administration of HACC.
All participants are encouraged to wear blue to show support for Earth Day.
Get an early start on Earth Day as students, staff and faculty get into the swing of the celebration by joining in on Operation Green, a project to spruce up the nature trails surrounding the campus. This work detail will be held from 8-10 a.m., rain or shine, say members of the Alpha Nu Omega chapter of Phi Theta Kappa who are organizing the event.
A white birch will be planted in front of the East Building in honor of Earth Day at 10:45 a.m. by Stuart Savin, Vice President and Dean of the Lancaster Campus. At 2 p.m., butterflies will be released during the dedication of a new Butterfly Garden behind the East Building.
Featured presentations in Room 203 of the East Building include:
- 10 a.m. - Alternative Energy by Russ Gutherie of Trout Unlimited
- 11 a.m. - Heirloom seeds by Erwin Richmond of Landis Valley Museum
- Noon - Edible plants demonstration and campus nature walk by Cliff Hammond and Richard Stringer
- 1 p.m. - Soil conservation by Shirley Wagner, a master gardener
- 2 p.m. - Water quality by Jeff Yordy of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection
Additional activities include a photo contest, Segway demonstration, recycled art demonstration by Debra Serdy and an exhibit on recycling and energy conservation.
