Missoula Children's Theatre production of "The Princess and the Pea" Missoula Children's Theatre will cast local performers between ages 7-18
Nov. 4, 2008
HARRISBURG —  A cast of more than 50 local children will perform in the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) presentation of “The Princess and the Pea” at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
Community youth can audition at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at the RLAC theatre for the week-long opportunity of working with a professional acting team. Between 50-60 performers and crew ranging from 7-18 in grades 1-12 are needed for the production. Students may register online for the audition at www.LiveatRoseLehrman.org or call the RLAC box office at 231-ROSE.
Among the roles to cast are the Princess, the Pea, King and Queen Size of Riverdom, Storm King and Snow Queen of Glacierdom, the Prince, the mischievous Jack Frost, the citizens of Riverdom and Glacierdom, the dust bunnies, some wannabe princesses and some meddling leprechauns. Assistant directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and to take on essential backstage responsibilities.
All of MCT’s shows are original adaptations of classic children's stories and fairytales – with an added twist. In “The Princess and the Pea,” the Prince of a snowy kingdom is looking for a proper Princess with whom to share the throne. The Princess and her friend, the Pea, live in a kingdom of green rolling hills. These two kingdoms think they have nothing in common, but a group of peace-loving leprechauns prove otherwise.
Missoula Children’s Theatre, the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for more than 30 years and will visit more than 1,100 communities this year with 30 teams of tour actor/directors. A tour team arrives in a given town with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play . . . except the cast. The week-long residency begins with an open group audition and culminates in two public performances.
MCT’s “The Princess and the Pea”is sponsored by the HACC Alumni Association. The media partners for this show are Central Penn Parent and PennLive.com.
