Harrisburg, PA – Handcrafted art work from Central Pennsylvania artisans will be featured June 21-July 19 at the “Artisan Marketplace of Harrisburg” held at Radius, HACC Gallery and Museum Shop on the first floor of The State Museum, 300 North St.
The public is invited to meet the artists at the opening from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the gallery. All works on display are for sale.
“This is an opportunity for artisans to market their work,” said Fran Verotsky, executive director of HACC’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies, co-sponsor of the marketplace. “We are giving these artists and artisans who are rural businesses or a home-based operation a chance for a new venue where they can showcase and sell their artwork.”
Visitors to the Artisan Marketplace of Harrisburg will find an array of one-of-a-kind and unusual gifts created by Central Pennsylvania’s craftspeople, including jewelry from precious metal clays, photographs, metal sculpture, stained glass, fabric book, and stamped artwork.
Having the marketplace in a gallery with regular hours presents another opportunity for the many participating artists: Unlike conventional art shows, artists are not required to continually staff a booth. “This presents an effective and efficient method of selling,” said David McNaughton a business counselor for HACC’s Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies.
“Artisans are provided the opportunity to network and share information with other artists and they receive support and technical assistance from the Radius staff and HACC business counselors,” McNaughton added. Participants are also provided with an invaluable list of business resources and networking contacts and opportunities.
The marketplace will be open during gallery hours, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and noon-4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 21-July 19.
