LANCASTER – School teachers, faculty from area colleges and volunteers are invited to be a part of Kids’ College in June at the Lancaster and Harrisburg campuses of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
Enthusiastic instructors are needed for the week-long camps for third-, fourth- and fifth-graders in these areas: cartoons to comic strips, graphic design, mathematics topics and general interest areas – No Cook Chef and American Sign Language. Instructors have the opportunity to create age-appropriate content and activities for the hour-long sessions.
Volunteers will help as instructor assistants and can be a high school senior or older. Students assisting with Kids College can earn community hours for civic club or summer project requirements.
The first summer program takes place 8 a.m.-noon, Monday-Thursday, June 15-18, at HACC’s Lancaster Campus, 1641 Old Philadelphia Pike. The camp also is offered the following week 8 a.m.-noon, Monday-Thursday, June 22-25 at the Harrisburg Campus on One HACC Drive.
Teachers are required to have experience educating children. Clearance of a criminal record and child abuse are also necessary. The stipend is $25 per hour.
Volunteers should have initiative to work with children and also have the same criminal record and child abuse clearance. A brief letter of recommendation from a teacher or school counselor is required.
