HARRISBURG, PA – HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, offers the latest in cutting-edge programs in engineering and technology – the 21st century careers in demand by employers in the region as well as nationally.
Prospective students – from graduating seniors to career changers – and parents, educators and counselors are invited to attend a free Engineering/Technology informational workshop from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at HACC’s Midtown II at Third and Reily streets in midtown Harrisburg.
Participants will discover the range of engineering and technology programs offered by HACC, including architectural technology, electronic engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, civil technology, nanofabrication manufacturing technology and geographic information systems.
Not sure what these programs entail? Workshop participants will get hands on experience and see demonstrations, meet the engineering and technology faculty and explore labs and classrooms and learn about technology internships, co-op opportunities and work-study. In addition, information on career and transfer opportunities for HACC associate degree graduates will be available.
“The number of career opportunities for engineers and technicians continues to run strong,” said David McNeilly, Senior Professor of Engineering/Counseling.
“Majors that remain in steady need are technical programs like civil, geospatial technology, mechanical and electronics. Graduating engineers and technicians have the ideal training to move forward in today’s high-tech society,” McNeilly added. Many go on to management positions, he added.
At HACC, students can take two-year associate degree and transfer programs, or opt for the shorter certificate and diploma programs to meet their immediate goals.
The public also is invited to attend a free HACC Open House at Midtown II starting at 3 p.m. on the same day, Tuesday, Oct. 27. Tours will be available for anyone who hasn’t walked through the renovated former Evangelical Press building with its high-tech, cutting-edge equipment in state-of-the-art workshops and classrooms for careers in the trades as well as engineering and technology. HACC’s Midtown site also provides general education courses, student and career services, library, computer lab and a cafeteria.
Teachers and guidance counselors who bring their students will receive ACT 48 credit. Visitors are asked to park in HACC lots #4 or #6 across from the building.
Although the evening exploration workshop event is free, registration in advance is recommended. For more information or to register, 221-1300, ext. 1421 or email Donna Daversa. Include a phone number and the number of people who are planning to attend.
