Several personal enrichment courses added to lineup in September

GETTYSBURG – If you are retired or have some free time in the early afternoon, the Continuing Education Division at HACC-Gettysburg Campus is offering 18 classes this fall to challenge your mind and explore your creativity.
The new Afternoon Community Education Sessions (ACES) cover a variety of topics from the creative to history to general interest and more. All classes are offered at the HACC-Gettysburg Campus, 731 Old Harrisburg Road.
Arts, crafts and music classes for September include:
Tole & Decorative Painting I, offered 1:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 9-30, at a cost of $75. Learn basic brush strokes in this beginner’s course, including side load float, highlighting, dry brushing, and varnishing. No drawing experience is necessary. A materials fee will be collected at the first class. A supply list will be included in the confirmation letter.
Drawing Basics, Beginner, offered 1-3 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 13-Oct. 25, at a cost of $99. Students will learn approaches to drawing utilizing a variety of tools and covering all subject matter, including landscapes, portrait, still life, and abstract.
Fused Art Glass Jewelry, offered 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 14-28, at a cost of $65, which includes the use of tools. Learn to create beautiful art glass jewelry by cutting specialty fusing and dichroic glass pieces, which are then fired in a kiln. Students will purchase glass and wire and pay a nominal firing fee, which must be paid by cash or check on the first day of class.
Crochet 101, offered 1-3 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 15-Oct. 6, at a cost of $59. Learn about the different types of yarn, sizing a crochet hook, and the different stitches in the crash course on crochet. Bring a USH 8 crochet hook and 100 percent cotton yarn to class and get started on a new hobby.
For history lovers, Lydia Leister and Her Neighbors, offered 1:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at a cost of $25. Lydia Leister and her neighbors left their productive farms when the Battle of Gettysburg began, and her home became General Meade’s headquarters. Meet the widow Lydia in a living history presentation and experience the aftermath of the battle as it affected the farmers of rural Gettysburg.
Of general interest is Finding the Right Job at Any Age, offered 1-4 p.m. Fridays, Sept. 17 and 24, at a cost of $59. This new course is designed to improve each person’s ability to get a good job. It is about learning the practical skills that will allow you to clarify the type of job you really want. If you are re-entering the job market or are looking at a part-time profession, this course will help you take your life experiences and transfer them into marketable employment skills.
