HARRISBURG – From languages to history, photography and more, the Continuing Education division at HACC-Harrisburg Campus has something for everyone’s personal enrichment in this fall.

All classes are offered at the campus, unless otherwise noted. For history and mystery buffs, the lineup includes:

Whicher and Vidocq: Their Influence on the First Mystery Novels, offered 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, at Mount Hill Tavern, Linglestown, at a cost of $25. These real life detectives were models for the first mysteries by Edgar Allen Poe, Wilkie Collins, Charles Dickens, and perhaps even Arthur Conan Doyle. The two men were very different individuals but were the best in their field: Jonathan Whicher investigated the murder that rocked Victorian England; Eugène François Vidocq was founder and chief of one of the world’s first plains-clothes police forces. Note: This location is not handicap accessible.

Silhouettes: Women of Harrisburg Remembered, offered 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at Mount Hill Tavern, Linglestown, at a cost of $25 for either class. Women have contributed significantly to the growth and development in countless ways, yet little information is available to document their accomplishments. This class will focus on women who participated in and performed marvelous achievements from the founding of Harrisburg in 1719 to the 1960s. Note: This location is not handicap accessible.

Creating a Shimmering Tannenbaum – Especially for Small Areas, offered 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Stauffer’s, Linglestown Road, Linglestown, at a cost of $35, which includes the tree and lights. In this hands-on workshop, students will be able to create a tannenbaum using a small tree and lights designed for small spaces.

Non-traditional and Same Sex Couple Issue, offered 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at a cost of $35. The class will review will, estate planning, disposition of remains, guardianship, health care, directives and powers of attorney. Topics will be review based on differences between basic documents for married heterosexual couples and unmarried couples in committed relationships. New changes to Pennsylvania probate and power of attorney will be incorporated.
