Find your interest with spring classes in Gettysburg

Gettysburg, PA – Continuing education classes offered in February at HACC-Gettysburg Campus cover a variety of topics from history to self-publishing your book, home repairs for dummies, conversational Italian and German, and etiquette for young people.
Classes meet at the campus, unless otherwise noted. Among the courses are:
  • “Enhancing Your Golf Tournament” offered from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at a cost of $29. This course is designed to help existing golf tournaments increase participation and revenue for nonprofit, charity or special interest groups.
  • “Getting Paid to Talk” offered 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at a cost of $39. If you’ve been told you have a great voice, this exciting class will explore numerous aspects of voice-acting work for television, film, radio, books-on-tape, documentaries and the Internet. Class participants will have a chance to record a commercial script.
  • “Self-Publishing Your Book” offered 7-9 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 18-March 4. The cost is $59. Learn the pros and cons of self-publishing, and whether it is appropriate for your project. Participants also will learn about editing the manuscript, designing a professional product, finding the right printer, securing a distributor, and marketing the book.
  • “Developing Charisma” is new this spring and is offered from 6-9 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 18 and 25, at a cost of $59. Why do heads turn when some people walk into the room? What about people, who, when you shake their hand, you instantly trust and believe them? They have charisma, one of the most desirable qualities in the world. Find out how to develop yours in the class.
  • “Etiquette for Young People” is another new offering this spring. It will be held from 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays, Feb. 20 and 27, at a cost of $59. Learn the commonsense, simple rules for etiquette and develop the security and grace to handle everyday challenges.
  • “Ghosts 101” explores the paranormal in this class offered from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at a cost of $25. The class covers an overview of the types of ghosts and characteristics of an authentic haunting. Discover modern tools used for investigation ghostly realms.
  • “Dummies Guide to Home Repairs” will be offered in Hanover from 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 3-24, at a cost of $85. Learn how-to techniques and get hands-on experience in basic household repairs and improvements. Class includes review of electrical and hand tools, tool safety, and an open session for participants to explore their particular home repair issues.
  • Conversational Italian I will be offered 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 4-March 25 at a cost of $125. This is an opportunity to learn basic skills in the Italian language.
  • Conversational German I will be offered from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 9-March 30 at a cost of $125. Like Conversational Italian I, this class is an opportunity to learn basic skills in the German language.
  • Five Common Herbs for Medicinal Use will be offered from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at a cost of $25. Discover what has been proven scientifically about these herbs and how to grow and harvest them. Each participant will receive a small bar of homemade jewelweed soap, which is effective in easing poison ivy, bug bites and stings.
  • Selling a Home Successfully will be offered from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Feb. 20, at a cost of $35. Participants will learn the basic guidelines for pricing a house to correct market value, displaying for best effect, advertising, qualifying prospects, showing the property, inspections and warranties, negotiating, and typical financial and sales contracts.
