Harrisburg, PA — The stunning theatrical spectacle of Barrage is a visual and aural fusion of music, dance, theatre and song centered around an ageless and powerful instrument - the violin. Live at Rose Lehrman proudly presents the eight-member troupe at 8 p.m. Friday, March 19, in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
The young hip cast delivers the show with amazing energy and musical virtuosity. Barrage creates its unique sound with five fiddles, enhanced by percussion, bass, drums and guitar. They take the many traditions and styles played on the violin and the fiddle, and combine them with contemporary and world beats elements. Percussion, rhythm, movement and energy merge to create a brand new form of theatrical Barrage - click on image for high resolution download (easy login required)extravaganza, bringing the show to new and magical heights. It features a wide range of musical influences including calypso, swing, folk, jazz, klezmer, classicial and pop.
This performance is definitely not violinists and percussionists playing from an orchestra pit. Barrage will perform, "Animado!," which means lively in Spanish…exactly what comes to mind with this show and its contemporary and modern world music influences executed in a physical style.
Created in 1996, and based in Calgary, Canada, Barrage has grown from practicing in a storage-room-turned-rehearsal-space to traveling worldwide 30 weeks out of the year. They have performed live shows nationally and internationally in New Zealand, Singapore, Guatemala, Taiwan, China, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Ireland, Denmark, Poland, Germany, Norway and Monaco.
Each performer is chosen during rigorous audition calls that take place around the world. Even still, new players must train for several months before joining the cast members on stage. The young, motivated, enthusiastic performers talented enough to be chosen have high expectations and are consistent crowd pleasers.
The cast includes: Annette Homann, from Germany, violin/vocals; Charles Bullough, from Alberta, Canada, drum kit; Hidayat Honari, from British Columbia, Canada, guitar; Jason Hurwitz, from Pennsylvania, violin/fiddle; Kristina Bauch, from Winnipeg, Canada, violin/fiddle; Kiana Weber, from Michigan, violin/fiddle; Taylor Morris, from Arizona, violin/vocals; and Tim Harley from Calgary Canada, bass guitar.
