HACC-Lancaster Campus's personal enrichment programs offer something for everyone

LANCASTER – Whether you like to prepare foods on the grill, explore history, try your hand at artistic endeavors or myriad other opportunities, the HACC-Lancaster Campus has something for everyone this summer.
The lineup includes:
  • Lancaster County at Gettysburg,” offered from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, at a cost of $25. Class participants will find out about the soldiers, officers and civilians from Lancaster County who participated in the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1843.
  • Acrylic, Contemporary Textured,” offered 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, July 13-Aug. 10, at a cost of $149. Students will learn about and express a variety of nontraditional materials, techniques, and textures to create artwork. Class includes demonstrations and individual instruction. A supply list will be included with confirmation letter.
  • Writing Screenplays and Novels,” offered 1-3:15 p.m. Tuesdays, July 13-Aug. 3, at a cost of $89. This course will show class participants how to let their unique tale unfold. The class also will discover how to present work to top players in the industry, and to get noticed by agents, producers, and publishers.
  • Writing Children’s Books,” offered 1-3 p.m. Thursdays, July 15-Aug. 5, at a cost of $89. This course introduces class participants to the techniques of writing chapter and picture books for children. Topics include creating characters, writing strong yet simple stories, and how to present your work to publishers.
  • Getting Paid to Talk,” offered from 6:30-9 p.m. Monday, July 19, at a cost of $39. This exciting class explores numerous aspects of voice-acting work for television, film, radio, books-on-tape, documentaries, and the Internet. The class will cover the basics, including how to prepare the all-important demo. Class participants will record a commercial script under the direction of a producer.
  • Southwestern Grill Flavors (Demonstration),” offered 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at a cost of $59. Explore the flavorful foods of this region, including steak fajitas, Mexican grilled corn, spicy grilled potato salad with poblano chilies and more. Students must be at least 21 years old to attend this class.
HACC offers a variety of noncredit courses with something for most everyone. Go to www.hacc.edu and click on Noncredit Courses. There you’ll find a list of what’s offered and when at all of HACC’s five campuses, including Harrisburg, Lancaster, Gettysburg, Lebanon and York.
