Daylong event Oct. 11 includes meals, three sessions

GETTYSBURG – Meet new friends and explore new ideas at the fall “Living & Learning” seminars presented by the Gettysburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
Participants can choose from two dozen seminars offered during the daylong event from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the campus, 731 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg.
“Living & Learning” includes continental breakfast, buffet luncheon and three 90-minute courses, ranging from history and art to personal enrichment topics.
The cost is $49 with a registration deadline of Oct. 4. After reviewing the courses, participants should select one course for each of the three sessions, listing a second choice as well. The lineup of sessions includes:
Session I (8:30-10 a.m.) – “Theodore Roosevelt and the Great Canal,” “Writing Your Life Story,” “Ella Fitzgerald – ‘The First Lady of Song’,” “Sam Houston,” “Mary Jemison, French and Indian War Survivor,” “Celebrating Your True Colors,” “Selected Topics in Pennsylvania History – Rural Electrification,” and “PA’s Heroes – The Medal of Honor Winners in World War II.”
Session II (10:15-11:45 a.m.) – “A Musical Revolutionary – Jerome Kern,” “Songs and Stories of Halloween,” “The Daughters of Charity at the Battle of Gettysburg,” “Billie Holiday – ‘The Lady Sings the Blues’,” William Travis, James Bowie and the Alamo,” “Adams County’s Hidden Treasures,” “From Inspiration to Motivation,” and “What Did You Do in the War, Dad?”
Session III (12:30-2 p.m.) – “Theodore Roosevelt and the Great Canal,” “Songs and Stories of Halloween,” “Writing Your Life Story,” “The International Sweethearts of Rhythm,” “David Crockett and the Alamo,” “Mary Jemison, French and Indian War Survivor,” “PA’s Heroes – The Medal of Honor Winners in World War II,” “Introduction to the Explore PA History website.”
