GETTYSBURG –A new scholarship has been established at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, with the addition of the Helen Hauser Memorial Scholarship Endowment.
The endowment will provide scholarships to students enrolled in the college’s viticulture/enology program.
Hauser, a resident of Biglerville, passed away on March 7, 2012, at the age of 101.
The scholarship is funded by the Hauser family, owners and operators of the Hauser Estate Winery in western Adams County. The endowment is close to $11,000, with nearly $2,000 donated from memorial contributions in Hauser’s memory.
Melinda Hauser Davis, speaking for the family, thanks the many family and business friends who remembered her mother with a donation in her memory. "She was honored to know that we planned to establish this scholarship in her name," said Davis.
HACC'S viticulture program, which educates students on vineyard management and enology, teaching the making of wine, is designed to meet the needs of the region’s wineries that strive to create higher-quality products. Pennsylvania is the fourth largest winegrape producer in the nation and ranks seventh in the country for wine production.
