GreenWorks Development to continue investment in Midtown Harrisburg
April 17, 2012
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Residential housing for HACC students will be available in Midtown Harrisburg starting this fall, GreenWorks Development Chairman Doug Neidich and HACC President John J. “Ski” Sygielski, Ed.D., said today.
Midtown Campus Village will open Aug. 1, 2012, for students at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
“This project is another investment as part of our long-term commitment to fundamentally improve Midtown Harrisburg,” said Neidich.
“Adding resident students to Midtown Harrisburg will create new vitality to the area’s already blossoming retail and entertainment corridor. It will enhance the emerging college and community environment that has been building since the opening of HACC’s Midtown site,” Neidich said.
“We are pleased to announce this partnership that will provide housing adjacent to our Midtown site,” said Sygielski. “Our students already are part of the community, and having access to residential housing will allow them to become neighbors as well.”
Sygielski added, “HACC students who attend any of our campuses are eligible to apply.”
GreenWorks Development will own, operate and manage the student housing in accordance with an exclusive marketing agreement signed between the two organizations in March. The agreement designates the new Midtown Campus Village development and GreenWorks Development as the college’s exclusive student housing provider for the Harrisburg Campus. The agreement does not extend to housing that may be offered at any of HACC’s other campuses in the region.
The townhomes will be constructed on Fourth Street between Harris and Hamilton streets adjacent HACC’s Midtown site. Three- and four-bedroom townhouse style buildings will be constructed as student housing. The first seven townhomes will accommodate 26 students for Aug. 1 occupancy.
Thirty-six additional townhomes are approved and planned to be added to the project to meet future demand for student housing. Each townhome provides private bedrooms, two bathrooms, a washer and dryer, full kitchen, furnishings, and on-site parking. The student housing provides all utilities, including water, sewer, trash, electric, heating, cooling, cable and internet, as part of the students’ lease.

GreenWorks Development, in partnership with HACC, has invested more than $50 million in Midtown Harrisburg since 2006, including the construction and renovation of nearly 300,000 square feet of real estate at Midtown 2 (the former Evangelical Press Building) and Campus Square, which includes the Green Center of Central Pennsylvania.
Construction for the Midtown Campus Village project will begin by the end of this month.
