HARRISBURG – Midtown’s Fenêtre Gallery at HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, will feature the photographs of A. Pierce Bounds Sept. 21– Oct. 11, 2012.
A reception for the artist will be held at the gallery from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, during Harrisburg’s “3rd in the Burg.”
Bounds was the photographer for Dickinson College for 27 years before retiring in 2010. For the past five years, he has traveled between Pennsylvania and Texas, where his wife works for the Texas Historical Commission.
His current work explores the patterns and textures of walls in Texas. “I like the geometry in these photos. Color is also very important, and the Southwest is full of wonderful colors,” said Bounds.
Bounds often frames his subject in a way that emphasizes abstract arrangements of shape and color, producing an elegant sense of design.
Bounds, a Philadelphia native, traveled across the country in 1981 taking photographs of historic firehouses for “The American Firehouse: An Architectural and Social History” published in 1982 by Abbeville Press.
He has done extensive work in large-format photography for the Historic American Buildings Survey and the Historic American Engineering Record, both with the National Park Service.
Fenêtre Gallery is on the second floor of HACC’s Midtown 2 on the corner of Third and Reily streets. The gallery is open 5-7 p.m. Thursday and 6-8 p.m. on the third Friday of the month, or by appointment. Events are free and open to the public.
