YORK – Students interested in becoming certified massage therapists can now complete the certificate program at the York Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
“With the success of the program at the Harrisburg Campus, the College is expanding to include the York Campus. It will help our students in the local community from a travel standpoint and provide them an opportunity to be certified in an accredited program right here in York,” said Susan Biggs, director of healthcare education for HACC.
The curriculum is identical to the program that has been offered at HACC’s Harrisburg Campus since 2007. The curriculum has recently been augmented to include a portion of the program offered online.
Enrollment has been extended for classes that will start Feb. 4, 2013.
HACC’s massage therapy program includes Swedish massage, reflexology, sports massage, connective tissue therapy and neuromuscular therapy (NMT). The curriculum also includes mastering good business practices, communication and ethics. A student studio will allow the students to complete their required massage training. The studio will be open to the public in late spring.
Tuition for the 900-hour program is $10,950. Reduced tuition is available to registered nurses and licensed practical nurses. Financial aid is available to those who qualify and the program is approved for veterans’ education benefits.
Students must be 18 years of age and a high school graduate or present a general educational development (GED) certificate. For those who need a GED certificate, students can complete it through the College. A background check regarding any criminal record is required.
Applications are available by contacting the massage therapy program at 717-221-1386. For more information, go to www.hacc.edu/HealthCareers and look for Programs Offered on the left bar to find Massage Therapist.
