HARRISBURG – Garrick Dorsett, HACC professor, and Benjamin Lee Sperry, former HACC student, exhibit their work at Fenêtre Gallery Friday, March 15 through Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at HACC’s Midtown 2, 1500 N. Third St.

A reception will be held Friday, March 15, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. during Harrisburg’s 3rd in the Burg. An original musical composition by Willie Markley will be performed during the reception.

The exhibition will feature the artist’s personal Polaroid collections as well as recent works that utilize movie stills and instant imaging technology.

According to Sperry, "as long as you can create a film plane and expose light to it, you can make an image. I guess it's somewhat of a romantic notion that making images in this way is more truthful or genuine.  The reality, though, is that I embrace the lies that a camera can tell at almost every step. Any manner of truth is already in the image when it's initially shot, it's only my individual slant that gets added throughout the process."

Sperry attended HACC studying traditional photography and fine art. He has created cover art for the band, Other Lives. He currently lives and works in New York City. His work is shown by Lambert Fine Arts, N.Y.

Garrick Dorsett works in the HACC photography department and teaches photography and glass. He received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. His photography has been published in the Korean publication Photo Monthly Magazine, the International Book of Photography and Thrasher Magazine. His work has been included in exhibitions throughout the U.S. in venues such as White Columns and the Philadelphia Art Museum.

Fenêtre Gallery is on the second floor of HACC’s Midtown 2 at 1500 Third St. Entrance to the building is on Reily St. The gallery is open on Wednesdays from 4-6 p.m. and the third Friday of the month, or by appointment. Events are free and open to the public.
