Local artist’s work on display beginning Feb. 15
Feb. 11, 2013
HARRISBURG – “Constructs,” an exhibit by local multi-media artist Nicole Herbert, will be on display Friday, Feb. 15 through Thursday, March 6, 2013, in the Fenêtre Gallery at HACC’s Midtown 2, 1500 N. Third St.
The public is invited to a reception on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. during Harrisburg’s 3
rd in the Burg.
The “Constructs” exhibit was created specifically for the Fenêtre Gallery, with Herbert considering both the gallery site and the architecture of the historic building where the gallery resides. According to the artist, “I am guided by the question, ‘How can art be used to call attention to things that we take for granted?’… I seek to call attention to overlooked aspects of everyday contexts and objects.”
In addition to her role as an artist, Herbert is also an educator who teaches drawing, painting and sculpture courses for the West Shore School District in Camp Hill. She has taught sculpture at Lebanon Valley College and also served as assistant program director and post graduate fellow for the master’s degree in fine arts in studio art program at the Maryland College Institute of Art in Baltimore.
Herbert earned a master’s of fine arts degree from Maryland College Institute of Art and a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and art from Lafayette College in Easton, Pa.
Herbert has exhibited her work and participated in public arts projects in California, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Beijing, China. Her work has won multiple awards, including first Prize in Other Media in 2008 at the 80th Annual International Juried Exhibition, Art Association of Harrisburg, and second Prize in Sculpture in 2006 at the 39th Annual Art of the State, State Museum of Pennsylvania.
Fenêtre Gallery is on the second floor of HACC’s Midtown 2 at 1500 N. Third St., Harrisburg. Entrance to the building is on Reily Street. The gallery is open on Wednesdays from 4-6 p.m. and the third Friday of the month from 6-8 p.m., or by appointment. Events are free and open to the public.
