Hospital remains clinical site for students in radiologic technology program
“HACC will continue to have an affiliation with Holy Spirit Hospital as a clinical site,” said Lois Schaffer, interim vice president of HACC’s Lancaster Campus. “The six students currently enrolled in the hospital’s program will finish at HACC and continue with their clinical rotations at Holy Spirit.”
Rebecca Shoener, program director of HACC’s radiologic technology program, said, “It makes sense to move all facets of the program to HACC. We have cutting-edge technology and our staff and faculty keep abreast of the most up-to-date information.”
Students to be notified this week
Prospective students will be notified of the change this week when they receive the College’s packet of information and an application. All applicants must apply to HACC. Previously, most students would apply to both institutions and if accepted, choose which one they wanted to attend.
An articulation agreement between the hospital and HACC previously allowed students enrolled in the hospital’s program to transfer their credits to the College to complete an associate of science degree in radiologic technology. The initial contract was signed June 17, 1980, for the hospital-based radiologic technology program at HACC.
Top 25 applicants accepted
HACC accepts the top 25 applicants for the rigorous, two-year program. The next cohort of students starts in January 2014.
“Typically, we receive 100 applications for those 25 seats,” Shoener said.
The entire degree can be completed at HACC’s Lancaster Campus. Students who are accepted into the program can take some radiologic technology courses at HACC’s Harrisburg Campus, and can take required general education courses at any of HACC’s five campuses, including Gettysburg, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon, York and the Virtual Campus.
HACC’s radiologic technologist program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education of Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). The College currently has 19 clinical sites throughout Central Pennsylvania where students do their clinical studies, and will be applying to the JRCERT to add sites within the Holy Spirit Health System.
Information sessions scheduled
New students are required to attend an information session. Two are scheduled this spring.
Students can attend a session Friday, April 5, 2013, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Monday, April 22, 2013, from 5-6 p.m. Both sessions will be held in East 213 at HACC’s Lancaster Campus, 1641 Old Philadelphia Road.
