ESL classes start March 3, 2014
HACC’s Language Institute will offer a series of English as a second language (ESL) classes for college and careerstudents. The eight-week intermediate and advanced levels of ESL classes are designed for adults who may lack work-related English language skills, are looking to improve their English-language understanding and pronunciation, have not had success in previous formal ESL classes or need more training before attending ESL classes for credit.
HACC student Gustavo Samayoa credits the ESL classes for “helping me with grammar, writing, spelling and most importantly my confidence in speaking.” Samayoa added, “I can now communicate better with my co-workers and my supervisor. I feel more optimistic about my future, about studying and working.”
Robin Paulison, director of adult education pathways at HACC’s Language Institute, said “We see these not just as language classes, but as opportunities to break down barriers. The courses will give students more confidence in English, allow them to have success in the classroom and the workplace and participate more fully in our society. We’re very excited to bring HACC’s Language Institute ESL classes to the Adams County community.”
ESL classes begin March 3, 2014, and will meet Mondays and Wednesdays through April 23, 2014, from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuition is $195 per course with an additional $25 materials fee.
Before starting class, students must attend a free orientation session on how to enroll and take a placement test. Orientation sessions are scheduled Monday, Feb. 3 or Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, from 6-8 p.m.
