Classic play is last of the season
       HARRISBURG – Thornton Wilder’s classic drama, “Our Town,” will be presented by HACC TheatreWorks March 8-10, 2013, at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center’s Studio Theatre on the Harrisburg Campus. Directed by HACC Theatre Professor Marnie Brennan, the play will be performed Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9 at 8 p.m., with a matinee on Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m.

       “Our Town” is set in the fictional small town of Grover’s Corners, N.H., in 1901. The town has streets, schools, churches, farms, stores and townspeople. Through this very ordinary setting, Wilder leads into the magic and celebration of everyday life and the realization that each day is special. Emily, one of the play’s central characters, asks the question, “Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it – every minute?”

       Through scenes that include neighbors exchanging pleasantries, a stress-filled wedding day and a guided tour of the local cemetery, “Our Town” displays an ideal, safe haven of small-town America to cherish in the middle of an ever-changing world. This ideal still resonates with audiences today, and Citybeat.com says of the play, “Its universality, its simplicity and its immediacy are among the good reasons why, in 1938, Thornton Wilder’s ‘Our Town’ won him the second of his three Pulitzer Prizes.”

       The cast of HACC’s “Our Town” includes Tony Trump as stage manager, Joshua Coward as Dr. Gibbs, Vida Joines as Mrs. Gibbs, Dakota Eschenmann as George Gibbs, Sydney Hill as Rebecca Gibbs, Joshua Dieter as Mr. Webb, Jessica Peters as Mrs. Webb, Allison Chester playing Emily and Stephen Barber as Wally Webb, respectively.

       The matinee on Sunday, March 10 will have American Sign Language interpretation.

       Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. The box office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and one hour prior to show time. Tickets are sold by phone and over the counter.
