Complete testing for free at Harrisburg, Elizabethville and Hanover sites before changes take effect Jan. 1, 2014
HARRISBURG – Central Pennsylvania residents who do not have a high school diploma can take advantage of free general educational development (GED) testing in November and December 2013, through HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.

“We want to encourage individuals without a high school diploma to test on paper before the GED test goes computer-based on Jan. 1, 2014,” said Robin Paulison, HACC director of adult education pathways/GED. “Once this happens, all current GED test scores will be invalidated.”

Paulison added, “Now is the time for residents to complete the GED battery so they won’t have to start over, and we are trying to remove as many obstacles as we possibly can to ensure this happens.”

The fee for each test is $16, or a total of $80 for all five tests. Residents who qualify will not have to pay any fees through December.

To receive the test fee waiver, individuals must first participate in a practice test session to assess their ability to pass the actual GED tests.

HACC offers GED testing and practice testing at three locations – the Harrisburg Campus (One HACC Drive), the Northern Dauphin Human Services Center (295 State Drive, Elizabethville) and the Hanover Center for Workforce Excellence (400 Pine St., Hanover).
