“This is the first time the Lancaster Campus has offered this opportunity,” said Leanne Frech, campus director of enrollment services and financial aid.
“Obtaining a GED opens many doors, including pursuing higher education, getting a job or a promotion and achieving a personal goal,” she said. “There is a definite need in this area for this sort of class.”
Students can choose to enroll in one of two six-week courses scheduled Sept. 23-Oct. 30 or Nov. 4-Dec. 16, 2013. The classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8:30 p.m. The cost of each six-week course is $105 and includes assessment, instruction and course materials. The course covers math, reading, writing, science and social studies.
Before starting class, students must attend a free orientation session on how to enroll and to take a placement test. Orientation sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 28, or Monday, Sept. 9, 2013. Each orientation session runs from 6-8 p.m. in Room 324 East Building, Lancaster Campus, 1641 Old Philadelphia Pike.
Also new to the Lancaster Campus are English as a Second Language (ESL) classes which will start in January 2014.
Students can learn to read, write, listen and speak English for on the job and in everyday life. Classes are structured in three levels: beginning, intermediate and conversational.
