Exhibit opens Friday, May 16, 2014

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Fenêtre Gallery at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, premieres “Edges of Light: Images of Breast Transformation,” an exhibit of photographs by Wendy Palmer and imagist poems by Kimberly Myers, from Friday, May 16 to Saturday, June 28, 2014.  Receptions will be held Friday, May 16 and Friday, June 20 from 6-8 p.m., during 3rd in the Burg.

The emotionally powerful photos and verbal reflections document Myers’ experience after receiving a sudden diagnosis of breast cancer. According to Palmer, “Photography is a means of telling a story through images, and so it happened with these. Photos that were originally meant only to remind one woman of her story propelled us onward to further photographic sessions and much discussion about what it means to live. Our hope is that these images and words will empower women facing a similar situation to see edges of light along the way.”

A resident of the Harrisburg area for the past 28 years, Palmer is a native of Cape Town, South Africa. In South Africa she studied physiotherapy and sport science, and in the United States she worked as a physical therapist until she earned an associate degree in photography at HACC. Her photographic work has appeared at the Susquehanna Art Museum, the State Museum of Pennsylvania and in Photographer’s Forum’s “Best of College Photography Annual.”

Myers holds a doctorate in literature, and is currently a professor of medical humanities at Penn State College of Medicine, with a joint appointment in the English department at Penn State University.

Fenêtre Gallery is on the second floor of HACC’s Midtown 2, located at 1500 Third St. The entrance to the building is on Reily Street. The gallery is open on Saturdays from noon-2 p.m. and on third Fridays. Events are free and open to the public.
