Live at Rose Lehrman Presents Tommy Tune in ‘Taps, Tunes and Tall Tales’
The Live at Rose Lehrman (LARL) artist series presents Tommy Tune in “Taps, Tunes and Tall Tales” on Oct. 17, 2014, at 8 p.m. in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus.
Honored with nine Tony Awards for performance, choreography and direction, Tune shares more than 50 years of big-time showmanship in this live, engaging one-man show. Broadway’s tallest tapper has enchanted audiences for decades and brings his dancing, singing and tale-telling to HACC’s stage to note HACC’s 50th anniversary and the 40th anniversary of the Rose Lehrman Arts Center. A post-show “champagne and sweets” meet-and-greet event for premium seating patrons will follow the show.

HACC’s Gettysburg Campus Hosts Free Events for the Public
The Gettysburg Campus of HACC is hosting several upcoming events this month in the Robert C. Hoffman Community Room that are free and open to the public. To attend any of these events, please contact Jessica Knouse at jlknouse@hacc.edu or 717-339-3536.
Award-winning Watercolor Artist Featured at HACC’s Lebanon Campus
Lebanon artist Daniel Vangeli will talk about the watercolor painting process at a Lunch & Learn on Oct. 9, 2014, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Room 105 at HACC’s Lebanon Campus.
The public is invited to join students and employees for the free presentation, a reception for the artist and an opportunity to view “Faces in the Crowd: Portraits in Watercolor,” an exhibit of Vangeli’s works on display through Nov. 7. Those attending are asked to bring their own lunch and beverage. Light refreshments will be served.
Visitors also will be able to see the art studio and find out more about the art classes offered this fall at the campus, which include Fundamentals of Two-D Design, Drawing I and II, Painting I and II, Art Through the Ages to 1300 and Modern Art. HACC recently earned accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design for the College’s fine art, photography and graphic design programs.
Vangeli experimented with different media before discovering his passion for watercolor. His work won 2010 best of show and the 2013 Mildred Sands Kratz Excellence in Realism Award, both in the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society’s Annual International Juried Exhibitions; the 2011 Winsor & Newton Award at the Baltimore Watercolor Society’s Annual Juried Exhibition; the 2013 Dick Blick art materials award at the Baltimore Watercolor Society’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition, and best of show at the York Art Association’s 43rd Annual Juried Exhibition.
In 2012 his work was shown at the American Watercolor Society’s International Exhibition in New York and in the Pennsylvania State Museum. Vangeli’s work has been featured in the American Artist Watercolor Magazine, The Art of Watercolor Magazine and Watercolor Artist Magazine. He is a member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and a signature member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and holds the Sylvan Grouse Guild distinction.

Sign Up for 2nd Annual 5K Run at HACC’s Lancaster Campus
Bring your family and friends for the second annual 5K Wellness Run for Scholarships on Oct. 4, 2014, through the grounds of HACC’s Lancaster Campus.
The race, which will be held rain or shine, starts at 9 a.m. with check in and registration from 7:45-8:30 a.m. The entry fee is $20 per person. Prizes will be awarded for first- and second-place runners in the male and female categories. Free parking is available.

Sustainability Lecture at HACC: “What Are We Trying to Sustain?”
Engineers, architects, developers and the public are invited to the Harrisburg Campus of HACC for a free lecture about sustainability and regeneration and why they are necessary.
The lecture, “What Are We Trying to Sustain?” by John A. Boecker, is scheduled for Oct. 2, 2014, from noon-1 p.m. in the Cooper Student Center, Room 204. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP by sending an email to Catalina Araiza, at caraiza@hacc.edu or call 717-780-2360.
Boecker, an architect of high performance green building design and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) consultant, will discuss living systems thinking and the potential for sustaining life through regeneration and the re-purposing of materials. He will focus on introducing opportunities to intentionally expand sustainability and incorporate regenerative thinking into our work and lives.
Boecker has lectured on the benefits of integrative design and regenerative development in 35 states and 14 countries. He has served as a LEED® faculty member since 2001 and was appointed a LEED® Fellow in 2011. Boecker also is a founding partner for 7group, an internationally recognized multi-disciplinary consulting firm focused on green and regenerative development.
Sustainability is a priority at HACC, where recycling efforts include energy curtailment and paperless systems that yield energy and cost savings. Green initiatives include the Select Medical Health Education Pavilion on the Harrisburg Campus, which is a LEED® certified structure, and the new Sen. Jeffrey E. Piccola Law Enforcement Complex, which enabled the College to bring its firing range indoors. Students and staff also participate in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) with weekly deliveries of organic produce to the Harrisburg Campus.

- In honor of breast cancer awareness month, Professor Ruth Negley will present “The Biology of Cancer” on Oct. 8 from 1:15-2 p.m. The seminar will review the biological intricacies of cancer and cover in-depth information rooted in a biological approach to the disease.
- On Oct. 9, Camille Armstrong, a former cast member of the off-Broadway hit, “STOMP,” will lead two sessions of “Body Percussion,” a fun, interactive musical workshop. HACC is offering two opportunities to participate, with a morning session from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. and an afternoon session from 1:15-2:30 p.m.
- Erin Davies and her “Fagbug” will be on campus for a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) awareness event on Oct. 10 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. More than seven years ago, Davies’ Volkswagen Beetle was tagged with “fag” and “u r gay” on the driver’s side and hood. She decided to embrace what happened by keeping the graffiti on her car for one year to evoke a dialogue with the general public about homophobia. Davies then planned a 58-day cross-country trip in her car now known worldwide as the “Fagbug” and produced an award-winning documentary about the adventure. She has visited more than 130 schools to bring awareness about hate crimes and to confront homophobia. Davies’ bug will be on display from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by a seminar concluding at 1 p.m.
