YORK, PA. – HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, in partnership with the York City Police Department, recently conducted a “shelter in place” drill at HACC’s York Campus.

The exercise, coordinated and led by Edwin Dominguez, assistant director of HACC’s Safety and Security Department, and York City Police Chief Wes Kahley, brought together more than 10 officers from the two departments to conduct the drill.

The drill was held to remind and refresh students and employees on the importance of being prepared in the case of a life-threatening emergency on campus.

“This drill builds upon the collaborative training and response that HACC’s Safety and Security Department and the York City Police Department have been conducting,” said Ivan Quinones, director of HACC’s Safety and Security Department.

“This is another step in providing the campus community first-hand training in measures that could protect them during a life-threating incident. Our department is greatly appreciative of Chief Kahley’s support, which he has continually provided the college,” Quinones said.

Quinones added, “HACC, in partnership with local law enforcement, holds hold these drills to assist the campus community in learning to implement their emergency procedures as well as evaluate police and security response to these events. Additional drills to be conducted this year will include an off-site evacuation drill, fire drills, lock down drills and a natural disaster drill.”
