HARRISBURG, Pa. – HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, shares recent news as well as upcoming events available to the community.
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, honored 31 associate degree graduates of its Nursing Program with their nursing pins during a ceremony at the College’s Gettysburg Campus.
The graduates successfully completed their clinical nursing education, which qualifies them to take licensure exams to become registered nurses (RNs).
Graduates Sadie Cosgrove and Caitlyn Lecrone provided a greeting for the pinning ceremony. Benjamin Hamm served as the student speaker. The following graduating students were recognized during the ceremony:

HACC Recognizes Distinguished Alumni
YORK, Pa. – The Alumni Association of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, recognized three outstanding graduates during its Circle of Distinction awards dinner on June 10,2017, in the Arthur J. Glatfelter Community Room at HACC’s York Campus.
The 2017 honorees are:
JoAnn L. Edwards (Human Services, 1975)
Edwards is executive director of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC). PHRC promotes equal opportunity for all and enforces the state’s civil rights laws that protect people from unlawful discrimination. In her role, Edwards furthers the organization’s mission through strategic planning to establish sustainable, effective enforcement and outreach practices that help ensure equal opportunities in a climate of rapid demographic, technological and cultural change.
She said, “My education at HACC was the cornerstone necessary for my successful climb into the corporate world.”
Edwards continues to give back to her community by participating in Dress for Success.
After graduating from HACC, Edwards went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Penn State Harrisburg and her master’s degree from St. Francis University, Loretto, Pennsylvania.
Ronald E. Rebuck (Nursing, 1980)
While studying at HACC, Rebuck decided that he wanted to be a nurse educator. His professional career at the College spans 32 years, and he continues to teach and advise currently enrolled students. Rebuck served as the Practical Nursing Program director for nine years and the Harrisburg Campus and collegewide Nursing Program director for 15 years.
“It has been a privilege and honor to advise students about nursing education at HACC because I am a graduate,” he said.
He serves on the advisory boards for these Central Pennsylvania four-year institutions: Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Millersville University in Millersville and York College of Pennsylvania in York.
Rebuck received his bachelor’s degree from York College of Pennsylvania and his master’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland.
Betty M. Snyder (Social Science, 2008)
Snyder was motivated to attend HACC in the midst of adversity to achieve her goal of becoming a community advocate.
“At the age of 54, I chose HACC to overcome the personal challenges I was facing with returning to college as a full-time student,” she said.
Snyder is currently a mental health outpatient manager at TrueNorth Wellness Services. Additionally, she serves as a community liaison and educator with the Child Welfare Resource Center, Incredible Years parenting skills trainer and Child Protective Services community trainer. She is the recipient of the 2013 Adams County Children’s Advocacy Center Multidisciplinary Investigative Team Award.
Snyder earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Shippensburg University, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
Zenoria McMorris-Owens, president of the Alumni Association, commended the honorees during the program. “To our 2017 distinguished alumni, I say thank you. This college is very proud of you and applauds your success,” she said.
The Distinguished Alumni Award was established in 2005. Every two years, HACC recognizes exceptional alumni who inspire other alumni and current students, distinguish themselves in their chosen fields, exhibit a significant commitment to the College or contribute to society through public or community service.
HACC Students Honored at Awards Banquet
LANCASTER, Pa. – Student ambassadors, workers, clubs and organizations were recently recognized at the annual Celebration of Students Awards Banquet at HACC’s Lancaster Campus.
The following individuals received awards during the event:
Minh Do received the All-Pennsylvania Academic Team Award. Do was chosen by Pennsylvania’s 14 community colleges and Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society for her academic achievements and volunteerism. Recipients must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher.
The Campus Service Award was given to George Brown. This award showcases a student who displays volunteerism by participating in a student organization.
The Student Leadership Award recognizes students who have completed HACC’s Student Leadership Series, which covers leadership skills, strategic goal setting and improving communication skills.

HACC Recognizes Distinguished Alumni

The Outstanding Freshman and Sophomore Math/Computer Science Student Awards are given to students who maintain a 3.5 GPA overall, 3.75 GPA in math and computer science courses, have completed MATH 121 and study one of the following majors: math, math education or computer science. Nisha Katuwal was the freshman recipient and Brianna Major was the sophomore recipient.
Cameron Baggs was presented the Joe Register Award, which highlights the student with the best literature paper at HACC’s Lancaster Campus.
Karl Angrand was given the Outstanding Peer Tutor Award. This award recognizes a student who goes above and beyond through their time in the Learning Center.
Dennis Shoemaker, professor of psychology, received the Outstanding Lancaster Campus Faculty Award, which honors a faculty member who has deeply influenced the student body. The recipient is voted on by the student body.
