HACC Signs Dual Admission Agreement with Elizabethtown College
HARRISBURG, Pa. – Students at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, can now transfer more easily to Elizabethtown College and take up to two courses at Elizabethtown at no cost while still enrolled at HACC.
Colleagues from both schools met at HACC’s Harrisburg Campus on Oct. 17 to sign a dual admission agreement.
Representatives from Elizabethtown College included Carl J. Strikwerda, Ph.D., president; W. Brian Newsome, Ph.D., dean for curriculum and assessment and college registrar; Betty Rider, Ph.D., senior vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty; and George Walter, interim vice president for enrollment management.
They were joined by John J. “Ski” Sygielski, Ph.D., president of HACC; Jennie Barr, campus dean, academic affairs; Cindy Doherty, Ph.D., provost and vice president of academic affairs; Kathy Doherty, Ph.D., associate provost of academic affairs; and LaShana Stokes, interim dean of student and academic success.
“This agreement provides another local option for HACC students who want to transfer to Elizabethtown College and complete their bachelor’s degree,” said Kathy Doherty. “We are pleased to continue our partnership with Elizabethtown College and make it easier for HACC students to succeed in their educational pursuits.”
Strikwerda said, “Elizabethtown College offers HACC graduates a career-oriented, affordable way to a bachelor’s degree that focuses on real-world learning in a supportive environment. We’re pleased to partner with HACC in helping their students fulfill their dreams of a college education.”
HACC dual-admission students receive benefits including early transfer planning, scholarship opportunities, access to libraries and other facilities on the campuses of four-year institutions and waived application fees.

HACC Announces 2016-17 Part-Time Dean’s List
HARRISBURG, Pa. - HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, named 2,282 part-time students to the dean’s list for the 2016-17 academic year.
The 2016-17 part-time dean’s list recognizes eligible part-time students who have achieved the academic distinction of a 3.25 grade point average or higher in college-level classes, who have not been full-time in either the fall or spring terms and who have completed a minimum of 12 college-level credits during the year.
The students are listed by county and according to hometown mailing address. The complete list can be viewed online.
HACC Artist-in-Residence Presents “Distressed Vases” in Midtown
A reception will be held Oct. 20 from 6-9 p.m. as part of 3rd in the Burg. Both the reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
Ast creates wheel-thrown vessels inspired by the Song dynasty and works in a stoneware clay body, firing in both gas and raku kilns. Every mark or dent in her pieces is placed with a purpose to create a more organic sensibility.
She received a bachelor’s degree in studio art from Elizabethtown College in 2016.
Gallery hours for this exhibit are Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. or by appointment.
HACC art galleries receive state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

‘Virtual Reality Reorganized’ Exhibit at HACC until Nov. 10, 2017
Stewart-Sanabria, who holds a BFA in painting from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst, paints hyperrealist “portraits” of everything from produce to subversive jelly donuts. The anthropomorphic narratives often are reflections on human behavior. She also is known for her life-size charcoal portrait drawings on plywood, which are cut out, mounted on wood bases and staged in conceptual installations.
Her work is included in various museums and private and corporate collections including The Tennessee State Museum in Nashville, Tennessee; The Evansville Museum of Art, History and Science in Evansville, Indiana; Firstbank Tennessee, Pinnacle Banks, Omni and Opryland Hotels; Scripps Networks; and Jewelry Television. Her work also is included in the Knoxville Botanical Gardens and corporate offices of McGhee Tyson Airport, both in Knoxville, Tennessee, where Stewart-Sanabria has lived since 1986. She also writes or has written exhibit reviews for various art publications.
Stewart-Sanabria is represented by The Arts Company in Nashville and Atelier Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina.
Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-7 p.m. or by appointment. The gallery received state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and from the National Endowment for the Arts.
