GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Four regional artists will showcase the beauty of Adams County and beyond during a rotation of exhibits at the Gettysburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.

The 2018-19 Gettysburg Campus art series begins Aug. 20, 2018, with “The Beauty of the Barn,” an exhibit of photographs by Anne Zabawa.

Zabawa is the current president of the Historic Gettysburg Adams County Preservation Society and leads creative and design efforts for Biggerstaff’s Catering. Zabawa compiled “The Beauty of the Barn” as a reflection of her love for the local farmscapes of Adams County. She has received multiple awards for her photography.

Photographer Linda Benzon’s work will be on display at the campus starting Nov. 5, 2018. Benzon’s photographs have appeared in regional and national publications, including Pennsylvania Magazine, Adirondack Life and Nature Conservancy Magazine. Her work has been accepted and awarded in exhibits in New York and Pennsylvania, including four consecutive years in the prestigious Pennsylvania Art of the State Exhibit.

Beginning Jan. 4, 2019, Gettysburg-themed watercolor paintings by Tom Rooney will line the gallery hallway. Rooney, a HACC alumnus and Gettysburg College graduate, worked for many years as a paramedic with the Gettysburg Hospital. In 2013, he founded Gettysburg Watercolors, a small business that produces and distributes limited edition prints, posters and greeting cards of his original art. He is a self-taught artist.

The final exhibit of the series, “Photographic Meanderings” by Charles D. Marley, DO, starts March 4, 2019. Dr. Marley is a retired physician executive and was the chief medical officer with WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital. As a young man he took wedding photography courses and, prior to pursuing his degree in medicine, started a wedding photography business. Dr. Marley now spends his retirement concentrating on several hobbies, including photography. 

An artist reception is scheduled for each of the exhibits. All exhibits and receptions are free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be provided.

Local artists are selected to display their work at the Gettysburg Campus each year based on specific criteria. Artwork must help fulfill the College’s mission to foster excellence in the educational and cultural growth of its service areas; supplement and enhance educational objectives; and help students expand their horizons by exposing them to new or unfamiliar artistic ideas and themes.
