Internationally Known Local Artist to Display Prints at HACC
HARRISBURG, Pa. – An exhibition of relief prints by Brenton Good will be on display Oct. 14-Nov. 7, 2019, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.

Good, a painter and printmaker in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, is an associate professor of art and chair of the Department of Art and Design at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

Good has exhibited artwork internationally, and has prints and paintings in collections such as the University of Alaska Anchorage in Anchorage, Alaska; Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey; and, most recently, the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, Texas.

The relief prints featured in this exhibition are artist proofs or monoprints. Each image is a different response to a design by the Italian architect Carlo Scarpa. A simple gridded pattern utilized in a number of the architect’s projects, the design itself was created by Scarpa in response to an early glass work by the Bauhaus artist Josef Albers.

The exhibition title, “An Edge is First a Cut,” is borrowed from a similar phrase used by the architectural historian Kurt Forster to describe how Scarpa responds to planes and negative space.

His eyes were fixed on the point that makes us blink because he knew that an edge is the result of a cut. He reacted to the violence that haunts the cut with a sensitivity that hoped to disarm it while respecting its unforgiving nature. – Kurt W. Forster, “The Architect of the Incalculable”

Good will discuss his work on Oct. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in Whitaker Hall, Room 214, with a reception immediately following in the gallery. The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.

The gallery received state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and from the National Endowment for the Arts.

‘The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later’ opens HACC Theatre’s 2019-20 ‘A Season of Destiny’
HARRISBURG, PA. – HACC Theatre’s “A Season of Destiny” presents “The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later” Oct. 17-20, 2019, in the Studio Theatre of the Rose Lehrman Arts Center.

This bold new work by Moisés Kaufman, Leigh Fondakowski, Greg Pierotti, Andy Paris and Stephen Belber asks the question, “How does society write its own history?”

On Oct. 6, 1998, gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard left the Fireside Bar in Laramie, Wyoming. The following day he was discovered on a prairie at the edge of town, tied to a fence, brutally beaten and close to death. He died six days later.

The town is now wrestling with its legacy and its place in history. In addition to revisiting the people whose words riveted us in the original play, the company spoke with the two convicted murderers, Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson, as well as Matthew’s mother, Judy Shepard.

“The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later” was developed by the Tectonic Theater Project and is directed by Paul R. Foltz. It is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.
