HACC Boots Up Competitive Esports Teams
HARRISBURG, Pa. – HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, has launched a coed esports program, with five teams participating in the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE™).
In esports, student-athletes compete and play video games such as Super Smash Bros, Rocket League® and Overwatch™.

The number of players on a team varies depending on the game. Some games are single player, while others require up to six participants in the playing arena at a time.

HACC is participating in the “play anywhere using your own device” model, which allows student-athletes to connect and compete as a team while remaining physically distant. As with conventional sports, the teams practice weekly and participate in physical activities to improve flexibility and deter injuries that could occur from repetitive computer gaming.

The spring 2021 season runs through April 10, 2021, with playoffs and championships scheduled through May 3. To watch the HACC esports teams in action, please visit https://www.twitch.tv/haccesports.

Student-athletes interested in joining HACC’s esports program may contact laclevel@hacc.edu for more information.
