HACC to Launch Film and Theatre Program this Fall
July 13, 2022
HARRISBURG, Pa. – HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, is launching a Film and Theatre Associate in Fine Arts program this fall to provide students with comprehensive training in performance or production.

The program expands on its previous theatre offerings with new technical and performance focuses for students interested in careers in filmmaking, editing, video production, sound and costume design and more.

Students who select the technical focus will obtain skills in lighting, editing, camera operation, production design, screen/playwrighting and analysis. Students pursuing the acting focus will gain skills in acting techniques, character development, voice, movement and improvisation.

Graduates of the program will understand aspects of film and theatre, expanding their marketability and transfer opportunities in both industries. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national job outlook for film and video editors and camera operators is projected to grow 29% through 2030.

Al Griswold, Ed.D., HACC’s vice president of academic affairs, said, “HACC’s visual and performing arts programs give students the hands-on experiences they need to start an exciting career in the industry. The College’s long tradition of excellence in the fine arts continues with our Film and Theatre Program.”

Over the years, HACC alumni have gone on to successful careers in film, theater and television around the world, including in Hollywood.
