Meet Maira: Pursuing a Career in Orthodontics

“HACC has made my life better by providing an amazing education and the opportunity to study in a country with numerous possibilities.”
At 12 years old, Maira Svistunova first set foot on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus while on a tour with her sisters and older brother. From then on, Maira knew HACC would provide the perfect environment for her to pursue her goal of becoming an orthodontist.
"I distinctly recall a humorous comment from Dr. Ski, who mentioned that if my sisters and I were to attend HACC in the future, we might benefit from a 'buy two, get one free' offer," said Maira, a triplet. "This visit further reinforced my positive impression of the College."
Maira's favorable view of HACC grew as her brother Victor shared his experiences while attending. "He spoke highly of the quality of education, the professors' patience and their effective teaching methods."
In fall 2023, along with her sisters Melissa and Melanie, Maira enrolled in the College’s Biology Program. Though she has just begun her HACC journey, she already enjoys the College's caring atmosphere. "From my initial experiences, I can affirm that HACC offers excellent education with exceptionally kind and adept professors who excel at explaining complex concepts."
After graduating, Maira plans to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor's degree in biology. Like her brother, she hopes to attend Bucknell University. Then, she'll attend dental school and become an orthodontist.
