Keynote Address by Dr. Kevin Gannon: Radical Hope: A Teaching Manifesto

What does it mean to create a teaching and learning community grounded in an ethic of hope during times that seem less-than-hopeful? This session explores both the theory and some specific practices involved in a pedagogy of hope and challenges us to create teaching and learning spaces in which all of our students can succeed.

Dr. Gannon is the author of Radical Hope: A Teaching Manifesto, published in April 2020 as part of the Teaching and Learning in Higher Education series from West Virginia University Press.

Dr. Kevin Gannon, HACC’s Diversity Scholar-in-Residence

Moderated Talk with Dr. Ski, HACC’s President and CEO, and Dr. Kevin Gannon

Dr. Ski, the president and CEO of HACC, and Dr. Kevin Gannon, a renowned scholar, will be offering a moderated talk.

Dr. Gannon is the director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and professor of history at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa. He is the author of Radical Hope: A Teaching Manifesto, published in April 2020 as part of the Teaching and Learning in Higher Education series from West Virginia University Press. He is a regular contributor to the Chronicle of Higher Education, and his work has also appeared in outlets such as Vox, CNN and The Washington Post. A historian of race and racisms in U.S. history, Dr. Gannon appeared in the 2016 Oscar-nominated documentary 13th, directed by Ava DuVernay.
