Our certificate prepares you to enter the workforce as an entry-level medical assistant in various health care facilities and ambulatory care settings, such as medical offices and clinics.

Our faculty will teach you the skills related to the medical office administration, clinical patient care and legal and ethical principles that govern a medical practice at the entry-level. You will be prepared to take the American Medical Technologists Medical Assistant (AMT-RMA) exam administered by the American Medical Technologists, which is part of your graduation requirements. (Failing the exam will not prevent you from receiving your certificate.)  

Our certificate will teach you how to:

  • Function effectively as a member of the healthcare team
  • Demonstrate the entry-level competencies prescribed by the American Medical Assistants Endowment
  • Take the American Medical Technologists Medical Assistant credentialing exam administered by American Medical Technologist - Registered Medical Assistant (AMT-RMA)
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills

This is a selective program, which means you will need to meet certain requirements beyond the standard HACC admission requirements. For example, once you gain admission to the program, you must complete the following components and pay for the following tests before starting the clinical portion: 

  • Physical examination and immunizations
  • Background checks
  • Drug and alcohol screens
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification

Graduates can continue for an associate in applied science in Health Science degree (students will be awarded 30 college credits for CMA credential and current employment in the field).

You can complete our program at the Harrisburg and Gettysburg campuses through various modalities (e.g., hybrid, synchronous remote instruction and asynchronous instruction) in addition to on-cammpus/in-person instruction.
