"In het oog lopen: Walking into the Eye" is a student art exhibit featuring the student work of twenty potters, jewelers and glassblowers from Harrisburg Area Community College. The exhibit begins at the William Ris Gallery, 2208 Market Street in Camp Hill on Saturday, June 7. More than fifty examples of handcrafted glass, ceramic, and jewelry from local students are included in the exhibit that runs through June 28.

The artists and the gallery are hosting an opening reception on June 7 from 3-5pm, with music and refreshments.

The title of the exhibit, "In het oog lopen: Walking into the Eye" is a literal translation of the Dutch term for "eye-catching." The featured artists in this exhibit are: Amy Auer, of Harrisburg, Sundra Boughter, of Middletown, Beau Bowersox, of Lewisberry, Diana Coble, of Mechanicsburg, Frederike Engelbrecht, of Harrisburg, Courtney Genise-Gdula, of Camp Hill, Cherry Knobloch, of Camp Hill, Bonnie Lonski, of Lewisberry, Elizabeth McCue, of Harrisburg, Isaac Morrison, of Harrisburg, Nancy Pratt, of Middletown, Dave Schreiner, of Lemoyne, Doris Slade, of Lewisberry, Jennifer Sullivan, of Harrisburg, Caroline Williamson, Carlisle, and Patty Wincovich, of Harrisburg.

Also showing their work during the exhibit are HACC's jewelry, glass, and ceramic instructors from the crafts marketing program, Pat Frese, Ruben Romero, Ralph Ilgenfritz, Jim Lard, and Robert Troxell. Three of the teachers are recent recipients of jurors' awards for the WITF art auction.

In addition to displaying the work of the student artists, the show is also promotes HACC's crafts marketing program, a special curriculum created for entrepreneurial artists that are seeking to turn a skill into a livelihood. All of the featured students are studying under the program. The opportunity to exhibit at a professional gallery is an extension of their classroom experience. Crafts marketing is one of several programs of study offered at HACC's Community Center for Technology and the Arts, a former Studebaker factory and AMP (Tyco) headquarters, on Fourth Street in midtown Harrisburg.

The HACC collective artists have previously been seen at the Doshi gallery in the Susquehanna Art Museum, at the Little Buffalo Festival of the Arts and have been regular exhibitors at Harrisburg's Arts Fest and Kipona since 2000, this year's Arts Fest included.

A drawing for a "Zebra Moon" sculpture donated by ceramics instructor Dr. Robert Troxell is featured at the June 7 reception. Clint Daub performs instrumental ragtime, jazz, and classical music on guitar during the reception.
