Dental hygiene students will assist professional dental hygienists on Sealant Saturday offering oral health exams and sealant procedures free of charge for elementary-aged children on February 7. The services are offered at two locations in the area: Harrisburg Area Community College's Dental Hygiene Clinic in Harrisburg and at the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center in Willow Street.

Parents who may be uninsured or underinsured are encouraged to make an appointment then bring their children on Saturday, February 7, from 9am to 3pm at either location. The dental hygiene clinic on HACC's Wildwood Campus in Harrisburg (across from the Farm Show Complex) is in Whitaker Hall room 227. The Lancaster County Career and Technology Center is on Hans Herr Drive off Beaver Valley Pike/Route 222 in Willow Street. Parents and legal guardians must contact HACC's Dental Hygiene Clinic at (717) 780-2441 or 1-800-222-4222, ext. 2441 to schedule an appointment. Children will be seen by appointment only.

Second-year dental hygiene students, together with volunteer dentists and licensed dental hygienists will perform routine oral exams before painting a thin seal onto the patient's back teeth. Sealants are a hard coating that help protect teeth from decay.

February is Children's Dental Hygiene Month. Sealant Saturday is a statewide service sponsored by the Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists' Association. Sealant Saturday is an effort to provide oral health services to children who are underinsured or who otherwise cannot afford regular dental visits.

HACC's dental hygiene students, as members of the Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists' Association, strive to improve the public's health, advance the art and science of dental hygiene by increasing awareness, and ensure access to cost-effective quality oral health care.
