Students of the Harrisburg and Lancaster campuses of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, recently scored exceptionally well on the national licensing exam for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN).

"We're always had a very good pass rate, and HACC students have consistently scored above average over the past five to six years," said Ronald Rebuck, HACC director of nursing.

The National Council of State Board of Nursing has increased the intensity level of the exam questions, and the Council was not predicting this year's pass rates to be as high as in previous years.

"So especially among first-time takers, it's very significant that HACC students had a good pass rate," said Rebuck. "Our students are well prepared to take the exam, which proves entry level competence. This reflects very well on the quality of HACC's faculty and program that we consistently strive to maintain.

"HACC's nursing program is very competitive," said Rebuck. "And although students tell us how challenging the program is, we're confident they are well prepared to sit for the exam because of the quality of their lectures and nursing clinical experiences. We know they have the skills to begin their nursing careers competently."

With 27 different healthcare programs enrolling hundreds of students annually, HACC is the largest local provider of healthcare training and education and the second largest educator of nurses in the Commonwealth.
