The Lancaster Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, will offer several holiday culinary classes including a gingerbread house making class that adults can take with children.

Holiday Hors D'oeuvres/Appetizers is a hands-on class that will be taught on Tuesday, Nov 16., from 6-9 p.m., by Executive Chef Ron Wenger of Armstrong Manor.

The French translation of hors d'oeuvres is "outside the work," meaning apart from the main meal. Class participants will learn to prepare enticing and savory appetizers - wonderful finger foods that are not difficult to prepare. A variety of appetizers will be distributed to satisfy all the students.

Holiday Pies and Tarts is a demonstration class that will be taught Monday, Nov. 22, from 6-9 p.m., by HACC's own Pastry Chef Cher Conley.

Participants will learn the difference between flaky and enriched dough, plus the production of pastry cream to create the famous fruit tart.

The class will utilize HACC's state-of-the-art culinary teaching kitchen at the Lancaster Campus to make variations of holiday traditions in pastry with popular fruit- and custard-based fillings. Participants will work together on proper baking and eye-catching presentations to impress friends and family.

Parent-Child Gingerbread House Construction is a hands-on demonstration class that will be taught on two Saturdays, Dec. 11 and 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. by HACC Pastry Chef Cher Conley.

Parents or even aunts and uncles are invited to come to spend some quality time together with the children, building their own gingerbread house and decorating it for display in their home. In the first session, participants will learn how to properly construct the gingerbread house out of dough and cut out the template for the house they choose.

For the second session, participants will bring their own candies and decorations, then let their minds go wild in creatively constructing and decorating their house together.

Early registration is suggested for these popular classes. They are just some of the many culinary classes in the Community Education offerings at the Lancaster Campus of HACC located at 1641 Old Philadelphia Pike.
