The Alpha Nu Omega Chapter participates in activities to foster fellowship, scholarship, leadership, and service at all of HACC's campuses. This year marked the third consecutive year Alpha Nu Omega took home a five-star award for overall excellence in its commitment to these Phi Theta Kappa hallmarks at the annual convention of the Middle States Region in Baltimore.

"Throughout the year a winning Chapter must provide very specific events within these areas in order to qualify," said Chris Kolanda, public relations secretary of Alpha Nu Omega. "It is a great undertaking for a Chapter, and a terrific accomplishment."

Across the four regional campuses of HACC, 357 Kappans this past year accrued more 7,300 hours of service. If these students were paid the federal minimum wage of $5.15 per hour, that would add up to more than $37,000 of donated time ad labor in service.

Alpha Nu Omega also received the Middle States Reaching for the Stars Chapter Development Award--a distinction given to Chapters who demonstrate a mentorship with other Chapters by providing leadership and assistance to help those Chapters reach their goals.

Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1.3 million members and 1,100 chapters located in 50 states, U.S. territories, Canada, Germany, and Japan. In 1929, the American Association of Community Colleges recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges, and in 2000 the Association of College Honor Societies recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the general scholarship honor society serving associate degree granting institutions. Phi Theta Kappa has 76 chapters in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey.
