Registration for summer classes has started at all campuses of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College. The college this year is expecting a rise in registration from high school students who want to get a jump-start on college credits.

HACC campuses are located in Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon, Gettysburg, and a center is located in York.

"Not only can students get a jump-start on earning college credits, but they also can jump start the psychological transition to college with much less stress and pressure than doing it the traditional way," said Subrina Smith Taylor, Ed.D., dean, HACC Enrollment Services. "An early college experience can help students plan for the rigors of college life."

There are three sessions of HACC summer classes. A 12-week summer session starts May 23. Eight-week sessions start June 20 and July 5. Financial aid is available to those who qualify.

HACC's open enrollment policy ensures that any student over 18 with a high school diploma or GED can enroll in classes. Because HACC has more than 40 formal transfer agreements with four-year schools, students know the credits they earn at HACC will be accepted at major colleges and universities throughout the country.

"After trying a course or two at HACC, many students often decide to stay at HACC and complete their general education courses for transfer," said Smith Taylor. "Parents love this option because HACC is so much more affordable."

It's becoming the norm for many HACC students to transfer to four-year colleges. A dual application program also allows students to register simultaneously with HACC and the four-year school to which they will transfer. More students also are taking a combination of in-class and on-line courses. HACC has more than 80 on-line courses available.

Summer sessions vary by campus. Contact the campus closest to you or more information can be found at HACC's Web site below. For questions about admissions, course schedules and curriculum, you can send an email at the address below.
