The application deadline for the upcoming juried exhibition, Pennsylvania Craft, is extended to June 30. All Pennsylvania craftsmen interested in entering their art for cash prizes and the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work are invited to apply for the inaugural Pennsylvania Craft, which is scheduled to open in November at The State Museum of Pennsylvania. The museum will also purchase one piece from the exhibit to place in its permanent collection.

Partnering with the Commonwealth's official museum to make this exhibition possible are the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College.

Pennsylvania Craft will follow in the successful vein of the Art of State, a highly competitive, juried exhibition, which has continued for nearly 40 years at The State Museum. The exhibition is open to state craftsmen of wood, ceramics, fiber, metal, paper, jewelry, glass and mixed media. Both traditional and contemporary crafts are being sought. The entry deadline is extended to June 30, 2006. Applications for submission are available at Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen Web site at www.pacrafts.com/radius or you can click on the Website link below.

Nationally recognized craft collector Robert Pfannebecker and Sylvia Lehman, a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, will serve as jurors. Pfannebecker, a Lancaster area lawyer, owns one of the top collections of contemporary American crafts.

Exhibitors' work will be installed at The State Museum of Pennsylvania, 300 North Street in Harrisburg. A display of selected items will be available for purchase at Radius, HACC Gallery and Museum Shop, located at The State Museum of Pennsylvania.

The exhibition is an opportunity that does not come along often enough for Pennsylvania craftsmen, according to Jessica Lantz, Radius curator of arts and assistant manager. "The exhibition of craft produced within Pennsylvania is highly underrepresented in the capital region," Lantz said. "With HACC partnering to present a statewide juried exhibition, we not only help promote state craftsmen, but also we provide them with exhibition space, enhance tourism in central Pennsylvania during off-peak months and strengthen collaboration among the cultural and heritage communities."

The exhibition will open with a reception on November 18, 2006, at the gallery and museum shop's location in the State Museum of Pennsylvania, 300 North Third Street, Harrisburg. The last day to view the exhibit will be March 19, 2007.
