HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, said today that it plans to add community education courses to complement the college-level programs it already offers through the new York Center. The new non-credit courses will start during the summer semester at its 2010 Pennsylvania Avenue location.

Spanish I and Landlord/Tenant Law are the first of many courses to come, according to Carol Gerkin, director of continuing education for the college.

"HACC is in York to offer both credit programs and to provide the community with noncredit offerings," she said. "While we will start off with these two summer courses, we plan to offer significantly more programs this fall."

Melinda de Fonte will lead Spanish I at the York Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 6-29, from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost of the eight-session course (which is approved for Act 48 credit for teachers) is $120.

Local attorney Kurt Blake, of Blake and Gross, will lead the Landlord/Tenant Law course for HACC. Scheduled for Wednesday, June 7, from 6 to 9 p.m., the one-session course costs $35 and would benefit anyone who collects or pays rent.

Topics to be covered include Creation of Landlord/Tenant relationship, including Fair Housing laws, capacity to contract, form leases and statute of frauds; lease terms, security deposits, utilities, rules and regulations; Rights and Duties-payment of rent, tenant disputes, implied warranties; termination of relationship and more.
