HACC's Theatre for Young People is offering off-site winter specialty classes that appeal to both the young and the young at heart. Students ages six through 12, as well as older adults can gain exposure to various aspects of the theatre during upcoming classes scheduled at the Jewish Community Center (JCC), 3301 N. Front Street, and the East Shore YMCA, 71 North Front Street.

"Puppetry Fun," a hands-on workshop that explores puppetry from other parts of the world, will be offered at the JCC on Wednesday, December 27 to students in kindergarten through second grade from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Students in third through fifth grade can sign up for "Puppetry From Around the World" from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Each class costs $12 for JCC members and $18 for nonmembers.

"Theatre Fun!" is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday, December 28. Designed for first through third grade students, this workshop is an introduction for the younger student to the fun world of theatre. Fourth through sixth grade students can sign up for "Theatre for the Young Actor," which is scheduled for 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., and "Theatre Makeup: Gore!" which is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. The first workshop uses theatre games to explore creative play and movement to encourage artistic expression. The second class is a hands-on workshop in which students use professional makeup products to learn the tricks used to create gory special effects. Each class costs $12 for JCC members and $18 for nonmembers. If registering for both "Theatre for the Young Actor" and "Theatre Makeup: Gore!" the cost is $20 for members and $28 for nonmembers.

The East Shore YMCA will be the host for the Theatre for Young People's "Acting for Older Adults." Open to seniors, the class is scheduled for Tuesdays, January 9 - February 13, from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Participants will use exercises and drama games to explore character development, engage the body, improve verbal and nonverbal communication skills, and spark creativity. The cost is $40 for facility members; $50 for AOA Club members; and $60 for program members.

"For the Young Actor: Total Body Improv!" will be offered on Mondays, January 8 - February 12 from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. at the YMCA. Students ages 9 to 12 will use their entire bodies to excite the imagination and inspire creativity through the use of improvisational games. The cost is $40 for facility members and $60 for program members.

Children ages 6 to 8 can enroll in "Adventures in Theatre," which is scheduled for Thursdays, January 11 - February 15, from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. Students in this class use creative play and movement to encourage artistic expression. The cost is $40 for facility members and $60 for nonmembers.
