Each year members of the art faculty at the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, have an enormous task: select the best work from their students for the annual spring "Honors Exhibit."

Students submit one or two pieces from each of their classes to be displayed in two separate shows in the Rose Lehrman Art Center gallery that demonstrate the breadth and depth of HACC's art program as well as the talent and skill of the students. The faculty votes on the best submissions. Prizes are awarded for the best work in each medium. Many of the participating artists go on to study at four-year art schools, start their own businesses or work in other art-related fields.

The first installment of the Honors Exhibit 2008 runs April 1-11 and features photography, three-dimensional design, two-dimensional design, computerized art, illustration, sculpture and printmaking. The exhibit closes with a reception and awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10.

Part Two of Honors Exhibit runs April 16-30 and features painting, drawing, jewelry, ceramics, graphic design and glass. This exhibit closes with a reception and awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30.

Gallery events are free and open to the public. Hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays and Fridays, 5-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and during selected performances in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center theater.
